I don't have a good title for this update of hondurasEMT... So you get what you get.
First off let's talk about flying. I went from SLC to St. Paul
Minnesota... Don't ask my why I went there first I don't know! There I
had an 8 hour layover... Yay for sleeping in airports! I then flew to
Atlanta where I had just enough time to hop on my flight to Honduras. I
arrived in Honduras with 3.5 hours to wait for my flight to La Ceiba! If
you've ever flown Delta... You know they have a little thing that shows
you the percent of how on time the flights are... From Atlanta to San
Pedro Sula.... N/A Honduras doesn't work that way. So my 3.5 hours
turned to 4 really fast. Then 4.5. Then 5. Ha ha any guess if it keeps
going from there? With my battery on my phone being at 12% we got on the
plane to La Ceiba. Which! Turned out to be worth the wait as it was the
best flight of them all. Totaling all of maybe 20 minutes which felt
like 5 we never got to cursing altitude and flew in the clouds like we
were in heaven.
These photos don't even do justice to the flight or that you could actually see!
So for the nerds.... Who knows what plant all those ones are? Or mostly are?
Well if you guessed pineapple you are correct! Honduras provides Dole
with their pineapples. (New appreciation for Honduras for Dole in
Disney!)
So Sunday evening we get to our new home... (We being Carly, another
volunteer... Don't worry lady's back home, we aren't allowed to date
each other) after getting all my stuff in my room and pacing forever
just taking it all in, I sit on my bed. Cue the culture shock. It hit me
square across the face like Babe Ruth hitting a home run. Holy cow
just doesn't cut it. Nor does it fit for this part of the world.
I couldn't believe what I had done, and what I was doing. Next came the
homesickness. Not even going there though. Let's just say it's a good
thing there weren't any more flights back out of the country that day.
I'd have been on one.
I only slept well that night because of how tired I was.
The next morning was better. But then again it had to be. I started my
day at 6:30 in the morning. Which for some of you who don't know. Is still
6:30 Utah time. Which would be great.... Considering the sun comes up
before that. And he's to bed before 7.
So what had I been doing the last two days. Besides trying to stay sane,
I'm doing Spanish! Before I begin, let me say I love Spanish and I want
to know it soo bad....... Begin
I HATE SPANISH! Es muy difĂcil! There is no way I'm ever going to know it.
So... Why I am not in the hospital then? Well because I need to know
more Spanish to actually be useful there. I haven't felt like more of a
bump on a log. But then again I'm saying this as I reminisce over how
difficult today was, and the fact that I still have homework... Es
cierto, tarea, en Honduras! ¿Quien llame para este?!! And if you're
impressed with that and unsure why I'm complaining, I looked half that
up. And ask someone, it's probably wrong.
But in all seriousness, I'm really feeling useless with Spanish. I know
everyone does but it's even more discouraging hearing it everywhere and
not even understanding a little bit.
It's just a good thing Netflix works here too! :) teehee!
So we will see what the rest of this week has to offer because
lesbihonest, I'm taking things a minute at a time right now. And I'll
let y'all know.
Till then, thank you so much for the love and support!!! I have received
so much since getting here as its not been the easiest thing ever. If
you ever want to get a hold of me email me at tonyloaf@yahoo.com.
Buenas noche!
Anthony!
